Story:
Praveen Jayarama Raju alias PJ (Nani) is sole successor for 5000 crores and he expects that money to be inherited by him after he turns major. But his grandfather (Nagineedu) writes a will in which he clearly mentions that PJ has to complete Degree studies in three years to be eligible to get that property. He also puts several clauses and conditions which will be hard for Nani to get through as he is completely against education and uncontrollably arrogant and extremely egoistic. How he completes his under graduation and what changes do he come across sums up the movie.
Analysis:
The director blatantly copied the story of a Korean movie titled ‘A MILLIONAIRE’S FIRST LOVE’ and adopted it to suit our nativity. Pilla Zamindar has a good story which as ample scope for providing nice entertainment. The director used Nani’s characterization to spill few laughs and the actor did a brilliant job in making the director’s job easy.
Pilla Zamindar has an entertaining first half which races to the interval point even before we notice. Although few comedy scenes that didn’t click much, there are certain scenes which tickles your funny bone. Second half too has entertaining moments but it goes in a melodramatic way as the lead character goes through the process of redemption.
The whole process of college elections didn’t gel well with the mood of the movie and looked forced. Director made it up with a neat climax which also has loads of melodrama. On a whole Pilla Zamindar is an entertaining film with a strong message.
The romantic thread is underdeveloped and there are few characters which are not properly etched. Director should have taken care on the second half where the story drags a bit with boring sequences.
Performances:
Nani comes up with a winning performance. He showed the right attitude and expressions which shows how good an actor he is. This is best performance till date. He carried entire film on his shoulders. Hari Priya is bland. She neither has the glamour nor the talent. They should have selected a better girl for this role although it doesn’t have a big role to play in the film. Bindu Madhavi is reduced to a mere extra.
Rao Ramesh is fine. Shiva Prasad is over the top. Srinivas Avasarala is good. MS Narayana is Okay. Vennela Kishore did a cameo. Rest of the star cast did well within their limitations.
Technicalities:
Chandra Sekhar’s dialogues are good. He came up with hilarious one-liners and there are few thought provoking lines which are extremely good. Sai Sri Ram’s cinematography and Praveen Pudi’s editing are up to the mark. Music by Selva Ganesh is bad. None of the songs stays with you. Production values are okay.
Director Ashok G did well in handling the film well despite having a story which has two entirely different shades. The story is a message oriented movie about human values and it is difficult to deal with such subjects as it may get preachy and boring. He did well to strike a balance between the melodrama and entertainment. However, he should have avoided that college elections part, which seemed out of the place. Technically he is strong and can come up with a better product when provided with the best in business.
